This iconic line is spoken by Rick Blaine, played by Humphrey Bogart, in the dramatic final scene of Casablanca (directed by Michael Curtiz, 1942).
At the end of Casablanca, Ilsa is about to get on a plane—and Rick isn't going with her. Not because he can't afford the checked-baggage fees, but because he knows their lives will be better apart. "What about us?" Ilsa asks, not wanting to board the plane without him. "We'll always have Paris," he says, meaning they'll always be together in their memories.
